Following the Yellow Brick Road
January 2012
Welcome Back
Welcome back to Yellow Brick Road to all families and staff returning after a break for the holidays. We hope that everyone enjoyed the winter break and we offer our best wishes for a happy and healthy New Year.
Thank You
A number of you gave gifts to YBR staff during the holidays. If things were a little hectic and any of us forgot to acknowledge a gift, please be assured that we appreciate very much your kindness and thoughtfulness.
Class Changes
There have been a few class changes for some children starting in January. We have moved a few children into more age-appropriate groups while maintaining state standards for children-to-teacher ratios.
January Workdays
In honor of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day students from Washington and Lee University will be holding community service workdays on Saturday, January 14th and Monday January 16th. On the 14th a group of students will come to YBR to do some painting. Also, YBR parent Elizabeth Moore has arranged for another group of VMI cadets to come for workdays on the weekend of January 21st and 22nd. Thanks to Elizabeth, other YBR Board members and parents and the VMI cadets for all of their hard work cleaning and painting during the workdays in December.
Martin Luther King, Jr. Day
We will celebrate Martin Luther King, Jr. Day on January 16th with a school gathering and birthday cake.
Cake Walk
Here is a reminder of our fundraising cake walk that will be held on January 28th at the Lexington Moose lodge. Please see Ms. Kasey if you are able to donate a cake. Our sale of Krispy Kreme doughnuts raised a little more than $2300 for YBR. Thanks to all who helped!
Inclement Weather
We mentioned our Inclement Weather policy in the November newsletter, but thought that with January and February facing us that we should remind you again. Yellow Brick Road follows the closing schedule of Lexington City Schools for inclement weather. If Lexington is closed, we will be closed. If Lexington delays, we will open at 9:00am. If Lexington closes early, we will close early.
